Undoubtedly there is always anticipation for any McQueen creation unveiling, but, due to the shocking circumstances there was even more focus on the last designed collection of McQueen would entail.
Needless to say the embellishment and embroidery made a grand statement to all the flawless medieval inspired garments and the sumptuous fabric imposed a sense of edgy, historic sophistication, which obviously captured the hearts of not only the fashionistas, but the general public. This collection questioned the reason way I perceived fashion, surely fashion is meant to be enjoyed be everyone?
You can always argue the impracticality of these garments as they are not the neutral palette of fashion this season, but they ARE works of impeccable art. From the choice of the luxurious colour palette, the gathered silhouette for the skirts, the beautiful blending of tones which evoke a royal statement and the highly tailored origami like structure of the jacket suit (my favourite piece!) which is where his expertise lies in my opinion, you can never doubt McQueen's God given ability to blend romanticism and tailoring into one complete 'ART' collection surely leaves a fresh yet permanent stitch on the forever changing Fashion World.
Mary Katrantzou
Ever since her debut this time last year I was immediately captivated by the trademark bold graphic prints that Mary produces. The juxtaposition of the feminine silhouettes and the sharped edgy masculine print creates her unique amalgamation of polar opposite concepts.
In this collection instead of using elegant perfume bottle images, she incorporates images of lace, jewels, ormolu, medals, and sashes and manipulates them to resemble modern geometric prints which slightly resembles the prints of Gianni Versace.
What I love about Mary is that you can see her progression as a designer in her collections. She started with simple designs like shift dresses, but now has learnt she needed to expand in her originality as a DESIGNER rather then being just a fantastic PRINT maker. You can see that she has manipulated the fabric to give different perceptions and depth to her fall 2010 collection which i really love and find utterly breathtaking. All I can say is I can't wait till her next collection!
